eARTh

eARTh is a new artistic partnership between Veronica Gould and Andrea Foxwell. We want to work with the town to create A Flag Festival  for two weeks in March, culminating in the Festival of Food, Drink and the Arts.

We ran a very successful one day flag making  course in March.  Twelve people came along and we made two beautiful flags.  Everyone contributed to the design and the atmosphere was very relaxed and buzzing with ideas.  People dropped in to have a look and comment on the work and hopefully some of you will be inspired to join our workshops in the future.

We will be  running open community workshops in November, to share ideas, learn new skills and make colourful, beautiful flags. The designs will reflect and celebrate the diversity of the town, and help put Moretonhampstead on the Map. Materials will be from sustainable sources.

We need your help to celebrate the town and highlight what connects Moreton people – to the Moor and each other.

Help could mean:

  • saying YES to having a flag in the Christmas tree holder on your house, even if you don’t want to make one!
  • saying YES to exploring what sustainability means and

thinking about a design for a flag that  shows off a particular aspect of Moreton that you consider sustains community life.

  • Saying YES if you are an organisation, group or business, that could cheerfully be celebrated with a flag.
  • saying YES to coming to a workshop and finding out a bit more, exploring the materials (all recycled, scrap or sustainably sourced), finding out what is possible, designing a flag, and maybe making one (go on give it a try)
  • saying YES even if you don’t have a Christmas tree holder and would like a flag for your house, – we will see what we can do.

The flags will belong to the town, and be stored and maintained by the project.  (There are 80 tree holders – imagine 80 flags!) We  have funding for thirty flags, so this year there will be no charge for workshops, or materials – other than for businesses, who will be asked to contribute £20 to support the ongoing flag-making fund.
