LongHouse Originals

Welcome to LongHouse Originals, now well into our second year as your local source of quality crafts & gifts! We are grateful for your support and proud of what we can offer you. But did you know that we did not start out as a shop?

Eight years ago, we were just three grey boards of earrings plus a few necklaces, all made by Lorely, on an unlit table top in Salisbury Guild Hall. From there we progressed to a wide variety of original jewellery items, such as charm bracelet watches, zip dangles and wine glass charms, Lorely began taking commissions from customers, and Peter became king of the bangles and chokers (!) with his assortment of colourful designs on memory wire. We learned that lights make it easier for customers to see what we have to offer! Steadily we widened our horizons to include agricultural and county shows as well as a wide selection of craft fairs, until we were driving 25,000 miles a year and attending close to one hundred event days, as nearby as the Okehampton, Chagford and Devon County Shows, as far away as Sandringham 330 miles distant on the Norfolk coast.

Over those hugely enjoyable years we made friends with myriad makers and designers but, when the shop became available in the centre of Moreton, we jumped at the chance. It meant that we could consolidate our experience and contacts to offer a far wider variety of products than we could create alone. Plus we could regularly sleep in the luxury of our own bed instead of camping in our chilly van!

Many of you are familiar with our own hand-made jewellery, greetings cards, and original game of 1,000 Anagrams of Moretonhampstead – plus beanie hats to match. But we will resist listing the many other craft and gift items we offer, a] because we add to and change them as often as we can afford and b] because we trust that you will think of us first when it’s time to purchase a gift for a birthday, anniversary, prom, exam success, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Easter, Father’s Day, Christmas, or just because you feel like cheering yourself or someone else up! And, as a number of you already know, if you’re up for it, we enjoy a good old natter when you pop in to see what we have to offer …

Well, that’s it for now. We hope you have enjoyed reading this piece and look forward to seeing you soon in the shop. We’re a lot closer than Exeter. And remember, if you can’t see it, we might well be able to source or make it for you!

Best regards

Peter & Lorely
